1. Acceptance of These Terms

By reading, quoting, or otherwise using Who Do I Call For? (whodoicallfor.com), in a browser or through any automated client, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. What This Site Is

This site publishes editorial guides that answer one question: when something breaks in your house, who do you actually call? Each guide covers a single situation and gives you who to call, who not to call, the order to call them in, and what the work should cost, with sources and dates. That is the whole product.

It is not a directory. There are no business listings, no reviews, no rankings, no user accounts, no logins, no payments, and no dispatch service. We are not a contractor and we do not send anyone to your house. See about for what we are and are not.

3. Safety: Information, Not Professional Advice

Read this part even if you skip the rest. This site publishes emergency guidance, and guidance is not the same thing as a professional looking at your actual house.

  • In a life-safety situation, call 911. Fire, gas, carbon monoxide, downed power lines, flooding around live electricity, or a person in danger. Do not stop to read a web page first.
  • For a suspected gas leak, leave the building first, then call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line from outside.
  • For a suspected poisoning, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
  • Nothing here is legal, insurance, medical, engineering, or code-compliance advice. Local building codes, permit rules, utility ownership boundaries, and insurance coverage vary by state and by the specifics of your situation.
  • Verify any contractor yourself. Confirm licensing with your state or local licensing authority, ask for proof of insurance, and get a written estimate before authorizing work. We cannot vouch for anyone.

Costs, response times, and who-does-what boundaries differ by region. Treat every figure here as a reference point for judging a quote, not as a price we can hold anyone to.

4. Sponsored Dispatch Numbers

A page may carry a sponsored 24/7 dispatch phone number supplied by a pay-per-call affiliate network, and we may earn a fee when someone calls it. When one appears it is visually labeled on the page and flagged "sponsored": true in the structured data. As of the date at the top of this page, there are no live sponsors on any page.

A sponsored number is an advertisement, not a recommendation. Calling it connects you to that network's dispatch service, not to us, and any work, quote, or dispute is between you and the company they send. Sponsorship never changes which trade a page tells you to call or the order it tells you to call them in. Emergency and civic numbers are never sponsored, and that is enforced in the code that builds every page rather than left to good intentions. The full rules are in our editorial policy.

5. Cost Figures and Third-Party Links

Every cost range links to the page it was read from, with the date we read it. Sources change their numbers without telling us. If you click through and the figure is different, the source moved and we have not caught up yet. Tell us and it gets fixed and logged at corrections.

We link to outside sites for sources, utilities, and licensing bodies. We do not control them and take no responsibility for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices.

6. Machine Access, AI, and Automated Reading

Automated access is welcome here. That is deliberate, and it is the opposite of what most sites' terms say. Every guide is published with a JSON twin, there is a full index at /scenarios.json, and a free Model Context Protocol server runs at https://whodoicallfor.com/api/mcp/ with no key and no auth.

Crawling, indexing, fetching the JSON, and calling the MCP endpoint are all permitted uses, including by AI assistants and agents acting for a user. Retrieving one of these pages to answer someone's question is exactly what it is for. Details are on for agents.

7. License and Reuse

Copyright in the site's original writing, structure, and design is reserved. Within that, we grant a broad and deliberate permission:

  • You may quote, excerpt, cite, index, summarize, and machine-read this content, including for AI training, embedding, and retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Attribution is requested, not required. We would rather you quote us without credit than not pass the answer along. A link to the source page is the ideal, because it lets the reader get the full steps, the costs, and the update date.
  • Please pass the source dates through when you repeat a cost figure, so the person reading it knows how fresh it is.
  • Please keep request rates civil. There is no rate card and no metering. An ordinary crawler or MCP client at a normal pace is never a violation of these Terms.

What is not permitted: republishing a page in full, or in substantial part, as a substitute for the original. Mirroring the guides, wrapping them in your own domain, or bulk-reposting them so a reader never needs to reach the source is the one line here. Quoting a paragraph, a cost range, or a who-to-call table in the course of answering someone is not that.

8. Acceptable Use

Whether you are a person or a program, do not:

  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to breach, probe, or disrupt the site's infrastructure or security
  • Send request volumes intended to degrade the service for others
  • Misrepresent a sponsored number as an independent recommendation, or strip the sponsored label when repeating our content
  • Present altered content as ours, or attribute claims to us that we did not publish

9. Availability and No Warranty

The site is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or complete, and we may change, move, or remove any page at any time.

Access is also restricted from a small number of countries as an abuse measure, so the site may be unavailable to you for that reason. See the Privacy Policy for which and why.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, this site and its operators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:

  • Your use of, or inability to use, the site or its JSON and MCP interfaces
  • Reliance on any guidance, routing suggestion, or cost figure published here
  • The conduct, pricing, workmanship, or availability of any contractor, utility, or dispatch service you reach, including one reached through a sponsored number
  • Delay or damage caused by reading a page instead of calling emergency services

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top changes. That date moves only when the text actually changes; it is not a build timestamp. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the site's operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes a consumer protection right you hold under the mandatory law of your own jurisdiction.
